Welcome to the Fort Lauderdale Zen Group The Ft. Lauderdale Zen Group was founded by Zen teacher Roger Hawkins in 2003. His Dharma name is Shikan Sensei - sensei means Zen teacher. The group is made up of people serious about discovering self realization, which means realizing that which we actually are, the universal Buddha mind, which includes all things. When you truly want the truth, more than you want anything else, you will awaken. We make use of many of the world's great wisdom traditions, both east and west, though the foundation of our practice is Zen Buddhism. Without getting stuck in any theory, belief, or dogma, we use these great traditions to awaken the wisdom, love, and compassion inherent in the great mystery of our own being. Zen practice is about learning to use this awakening to spread the Buddha's teaching of the cessation of suffering for all beings.
